Our client is a leading independent research institute dedicated to understanding and transforming how
we interact with the natural world.
Background and Purpose
The ST&I Helpdesk Manager is being recruited to manage the end-end process and systems of the
helpdesk and provide support/feedback (as related to requests, responses, advice) for users within the STI
ecosystem in the west Africa region. In addition, the role will help with the network management of
experts and partner institutions.
The post holder will have responsibility for specific delegated tasks (planned and responsive) and ensure
their effective and timely delivery via accessing, collating, and analyzing business information and
responding effectively and efficiently to all requests received.
The role will also involve providing assistance to the African Research and Innovation Partnership
(ARIP) activities in West Africa.
Key Responsibilities:
∙Coordinate the setup of the helpdesk platform and operational systems.
∙Serve as a liaison between the helpdesk networks.
∙Collaborate with stakeholders and partners to identify and address STI related enquiries.
∙Receive, log and manage all STI-related inquiries, ensuring timely and accurate documentation,
processing and provision of responses.
∙Research and troubleshoot issues, escalating to relevant stakeholders/partners when necessary.
∙Gather and maintain a knowledge base of information and data related to inquiries and responses
and their sources.
∙Prepare and distribute regular reports on STI-related metrics and activities in west Africa.
∙Identify areas for improvement in the STI helpdesk processes and workflows and engage
stakeholders/partners to propose and implement solutions to enhance efficiency and effectiveness.
∙Stay up to date on emerging trends and best practices in STI management in the west African
region.
∙Organize stakeholder engagement meeting, training workshops and reports related to the
activities of the Helpdesk.
∙Assist to coordinate the implementation of the ARIP activities.
Qualifications:
∙A minimum of master’s degree in a subject relevant to Science, Technology and Innovation
or project management.
∙At least 7 years professional experience in a STI field in West Africa. International/cross-
cultural experience would be a significant advantage.
∙A demonstrable active interest and knowledge in network building and stakeholder
management in the science, technology and innovation ecosystem in West Africa.
∙Experience in organizing and facilitating engagement events/visits with an ability to use
initiative and proactive thinking, pay attention to details and cope well with a changing
environment.
∙Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
∙Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
∙A passion for innovation and a desire to contribute to a culture of creativity and problem-
solving.
∙Fluency in written and spoken English with excellent professional communication skills. An
ability to also work in French would be a significant advantage.
∙Ability to use multiple ICT systems, software and tools.
∙Ability and willingness to undertake occasional international travel within the West Africa
region and to the UK.
Employment Type:
1-year initial appointment with a possibility of renewal.
