The Community Based Rural Development Project (CBRDP) under the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development has spent GH¢ 13,241,437.93 on the construction of boreholes, school infrastructure and roads among other things in the Brong-Ahafo and Ashanti regions.
Since the inception of the project five years ago, an amount of GH¢ 458,238.00 has also been disbursed to set-up businesses for the unemployed youth in the two regions.
Mr Salifu Mahama, CBRDP Zonal Coordinator in-charge of Brong-Ahafo and Ashanti disclosed this at the opening of a training workshop on the use of pelletised floating feed and water quality kits for some fish farmers at Duayaw-Nkwanta in the Tano North District of the Brong-Ahafo Region.
The three-day workshop is to improve upon productivity of the participants to enhance their income levels.
The CBRDP provided the 45 participants with a total of 1,725 bags of pelletised floating feed and 21 water quality kits valued at GH¢ 98,608.00
for trials.
Mr Mahama said under the project 32 learning centres had been created to train rural small scale enterprises in skills such as mushroom
production, fish farming, bee-keeping, soap making and grass cutter rearing.
The zonal coordinator gave the assurance that the CBRDP would continue to provide financial and technical resources to sustain and grow businesses of learning centres and their trainees.
Mr Dominic Owusu Amoako, District Chief Executive advised the participants and the beneficiaries of the project to imbibe in them both the financial and technical assistance in order to sustain and grow their businesses.
He said under the CBRDP the Tano North District had benefited from a number of projects such as construction of toilets, schools, support to farmers and provision of financial and technical support to institutions and individuals.
