Crude oil prices dropped to close to $89 per barrel in New York after the government said stockpiles of crude dropped by 1.3 million barrels last week.
U.S. inventories fell to 339.4 million barrels and remain in the upper limit of the average range for this time of year, the Energy Information Administration said.
On the New York Mercantile Exchange, February delivery crude oil lost 66 cents to $89.18. Heating oil prices shed 1.92 cents to $2.4807 per gallon. Reformulated blendstock gasoline prices lost 0.33 cents to $2.3815 per gallon.
Henry Hub natural gas prices added 4 cents to $4.378 per million British thermal units.
At the pump, the national average price of unleaded gasoline rose to $3.072 per gallon from Thursday's $3.071, AAA said.
