Ten apprentices who have undergone training in various vocations in the Asante-Akim Central Municipality, have received start-up kits to begin work.
The equipment which were procured by the government through the Rural Enterprises Project (REP) is to aid the beneficiaries, some of whom have long completed their training and weaned themselves off their trade masters.
They are; Yaw Osei, Welder, David Keelson, Vulcanizer, Francis Kwabena Boateng, Welder, Boateng Fred, Welder, Samuel Yeboah, Auto Mechanic, Tahiru Issah, Auto Mechanic.
The rest are; Philip Tetteh, Auto Mechanic, Samuel Dubic, Auto Mechanic, Solomon Antwi, Mason and Appiah Bannie, Carpenter.
Mrs Susan Akomeah, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), at a brief presentation ceremony, challenged the beneficiaries to set up viable businesses to contribute to the local economy.
They must aspire to build on the support given them and in turn employ and train more people to help address the employment rate in the municipality.
She said the government’s commitment to create employment opportunities for the youth was holistic, adding that the focus was not only on graduates, but others who were not able to climb the academic ladder.
People with vocational and technical knowledge, she stated, had a significant role to play in national development and called on the youth who were not able to progress in education to learn a trade in order to benefit from such interventions.
Mr Emmanuel Tetteh, Head of the Rural Technology Facility (RTF), said the beneficiaries had received training under the REP to build their capacities as they established their own businesses.
They are also being prepared to sit for the National Vocational Training Institute (NVTI) examination.
