MTN Ghana has organized an AI community engagement session as part of its DIGIFEST 2025 initiative, aimed at equipping young people with skills and knowledge on the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI). The session, which was themed "AI for All", brought together students from various universities, including Accra Institute of Technology, University of Ghana, Ashesi University, and University of Cape Coast.
According to Winnie Dzidonu, Senior Manager, Digital Platforms at MTN, the initiative was part of the company's efforts to support the development of AI skills in Ghana. "We believe that the students are the future and they need to understand where the world is going," she said. The session featured a presentation by Janet Aborvor, a student of Accra Institute of Technology, on building customized chatbots and the importance of user cases.
The students were trained on AI development, including building chatbots, and were given the opportunity to work on projects. Suad Macaulay, a student of Accra Institute of Technology, expressed her excitement about learning AI and recommended that other students attend such events to gain exposure to new technologies and skills. "It was very interesting, and I learned a lot of things concerning AI," she said.
The event was part of MTN's efforts to support the development of AI skills in Ghana and to promote digitalization. Winnie Dzidonu noted that Ghana was making progress in digitalization and AI, but there was still a long way to go. "MTN is there to learn and support the development of AI skills in Ghana," she added.
The session provided a platform for students to gain exposure to new technologies and skills, and to find their right path within the AI industry.
