MTN Ghana is poised to build 800 more sites nationwide to boost interconnectivity and quality of the network. In 2024, the company built an additional 25 cell sites and doubled the number to 50 in 2025. However, in a very ambitious move, she has set a target of adding 800 cell sites this year. The CEO, Mr Stephen Blewett noted that MTN was working to give Ghanaians a good, reliable network at an affordable price.
The network keeps improving in all spheres. Its digital revenue, particularly, increased by 109.9%. Mr Blewett attributed this impressive gain to gaming which had gained a lot of popularity among the youth.
The Company is set to invest about a billion dollars in the network over the next three years. Mr Blewett said that it was important to give customers the best of network connectivity so they could enjoy the network better. He said that this would translate into more revenue for the network and, ultimately, more money for the country, explaining that 6% of the revenue for Ghana, came from MTN. He made these remarks at the 2026 Media and Stakeholder Forum held at the Accra City Hotel on Friday, April 17, 2026, under the theme: “MTN Ghana@30: Connecting Ghana, Shaping the Digital Future”.
He noted that cyber security was also a growing concern and the network would invest heavily in that sector to keep its customers safe. Mr Blewett said that investment in solar systems was also a top priority to ensure a healthy and sustainable environment. He stated that the future of the business would be anchored on three legs – Connectivity, Fintech and Digital.
In an answer to a question about why data ran out so fast on the network, Mr Blewett said that some of the applications that people had on their phones, used up a lot of data without the people’s knowledge because those apps continued to ran in the background when they were not in use. He urged the public to pay attention to the applications running in the background on their phones and stop them when they were not needed.
In a panel discussion, the Chief Digital Officer, Ibrahim Misto said that the company was investing in AI tools to make their operations smoother and the experience of customers, richer.
Head of Network Operations at MTN, Magnus Cofie, said that the company was geared towards enhancing the consumer experience by improving on coverage, capacity and reliability of the network.

She said that MMFL was encouraging customers to do more of their transactions digitally while also educating them on cyber fraud.
Shareholders were also assured that although MMFL had become autonomous, those who held shares of the company had nothing to worry about.
The Chief Corporate Services and Sustainability Officer, Adwoa Wiafe said that the challenging complex market environment demanded resilience and purpose, and presented more opportunities for them to explore. She thanked all stakeholders for pushing them to raise the bar.
She said that MTN was also very concerned about sustainability and was rolling out a workshop for media men and women to improve on their skills. As part of their sustainability drive to promote a healthy environment, the company gave out potted plants to all those in the audience wearing green.
