MultiChoice and ROK, the award-winning film studio and entertainment brand, has launched a new Ghanaian channel dubbed ‘ROK3’ on DStv and GOtv.
The new channel, ROK 3 will be available across Africa on DStv Channel 164 and GOtv MAX and Plus on Channel 118. Launching the event on Thursday in Accra, Mr Cecil Sunkwa Mills, General Manager, MultiChoice Ghana, said the gesture was to expose Ghanaian content especially movies and music into the world.
Mr Mills said their outfit remained committed to telling local stories in local language, stressing that the ROK 3 channel was a testament to their ongoing belief in the power of the country’s creative industry.
“With ROK3, our customers will both enjoy additional quality local films and series that will take their TV entertainment to new heights,” he added. He said the company would continue to create opportunities for the creative arts to be projected on their Pan African television platforms to support the Ghanaian creative industry to become a vibrant and economic powerhouse.
Mr Mills said the ROK 3 is a 24 hour movie, series and music channel, showcasing a wide variety of 80 per cent of talent from the country, celebrating a mix of local language movies (Kumawood) alongside modern urban delights (Ghallywood) coupled with music from West Africa.
Mr Abdul Salam Mumuni, the Representative for ROK Ghana, said the channel was a big plus for the country to take advantage of the platform to showcase local movies worldwide. He encouraged movie producers to make the best of the opportunity to send its contents to Multichoice through him for exposure on the international arena of creative arts.
Mr Socrate Sarfo, a Movie Producer, commended Multichoice and ROK for the initiative and appealed to the brand to treat movie producers with the best of services and pay what was due them without any compromise. This, he explained, has been one of the challenges faced by the industry where most movie producers’ contents were aired on television without recourse to any compensation, thereby affecting their cash flow.
Mr Sarfo urged movie producers to make good use of the platform and send positive content that would project the image of the country on the international ladder.
