Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Angwubutoge Awuni, Northern Regional Police Commander on Tuesday appealed to the people of Dagbon to ensure a peaceful celebration of this year's Damba festival.
He said the region was the hub of investments in the North, hence the need for the area to be conflict-free to attract the needed business
opportunities to engage the youth in gainful employment.
ACP Awuni made the appeal in an interview with the Ghana News Agency in Tamale.
He said the Regional Police command was on the ground monitoring the situation and would deal decisively with any group that would try to
disturb the peace during the celebration.
"We are doing our best and I have the hope that the region would have a successful Damba festival," he said.
ACP Awuni said police reinforcement had been sent to Yendi and other areas that are marked as flash spots and advised the revellers to comport
themselves and co-operate with the security personnel to ensure peace.
He asked the chiefs, religious and political leaders to dialogue with the youth to ensure that they erased violence from their psyche for lasting
peace to prevail in the region.
