The Council of Elders and National Executive Committee of Old Vandals Association (OVA), on Monday condemned the boisterous activities by students of Commonwealth Hall of University of Ghana, Legon that nearly marred the commencement of the Saturday, March 13, congregation of the University.
A statement issued in Accra and jointly signed by Mr John Mbroh, Acting President, OVA, and Daasebre Professor Oti Boateng, Acting Chairman, Council of Elders, apologised to the University Executive Council, Busumuru Kofi Annan, Chancellor, Mr Justice Date-Bah, Chairman of Council, and Professor Clifford Nii Boye Tagoe, Vice Chancellor and the dignitaries at the congregation.
It said the apology was without prejudice to any action which the authorities might take under its disciplinary rules, regulations and procedures against those who might be identified as the perpetrators and hope the action would serve as a deterrent to a recurrence of such incident in future.
The statement assured the authorities of its commitment to increase instructions with Commonwealth Hall and the junior members to counsel them in the proper norms of behaviour befitting students of the prestigious premier University in the country.
In another development, Professor George Armah, Commonwealth Hall Master, has in a letter on behalf of the Hall Council and Governing Body, condemned the incident and rendered an unqualified apology to the authorities.
It supported the decision by the authorities to identify the perpetrators and punish them according to the rules and regulations governing student activities and procession in the University.
