The Mayor of Accra, Dr. Alfred Vanderpuije, has ordered an audit into the operations of premix fuel committees along some beaches in Accra.
They are Chorkor Worlei Amli, Chorkor Mantsuru, Lantemaalin, Chemuanaa and Gbegbeyise.
He gave the order at a meeting with members of the committees on challenges facing them in Accra on Tuesday.
It was a follow-up visit to the areas by Mr. Enoch Teye Mensah, Minister of Employment and Social Welfare, and Nii Amasa Namoale, Deputy
Minister of Food and Agriculture in-charge of Fisheries, on challenges affecting their operations.
Dr. Vanderpuije called for monthly reports from the committees to ensure proper accounting procedures for premix fuel received and
distributed.
He condemned activities of Chairmen of the committees for running "a man show" and not involving other members in their operations.
"I am not happy with the performance of the committees for the past five months. You should improve your performance", he added.
Dr. Vanderpuije directed the committees to set aside 53 per cent of revenue accrued from the sales for development in the communities.
He announced that three AMA staff had been directed to take over the distribution of premix fuel in Ga Mashie area until procedures were
streamlined.
