Government's re-engagement with the management of Vodafone on some aspects of the agreement that led to the sale of majority shares in Ghana Telecom is progressing well, Communications Minister Haruna Iddrisu said in Accra on Tuesday.
Speaking at 'Meet the Press' series, Mr. Iddrisu said management of Vodafone had so far responded positively to the talks, which were now at a critical stage.
The Minister would not disclose some of the decisions reached but said government respected the sanctity of the contract and was only seeking
through the consultations to demand value for money.
Last year, Government set up a five-member committee to review some aspects of the agreement that led to the sale of majority of government
shares in Ghana Telecom to Vodafone International.
The Committee looked at the justification for the indemnity clause which seems to give protection to management and judgement defaults, the principles of cash free and debt free.
The rest are the huge indebtedness and liability of Ghana Telecom and why these were not declared during the negotiations.
The Committee after investigations realised that the liability incurred from the time of Telenor's disagreement to the period of the transaction between Ghana Telecom and Vodafone International.
Questions were also raised about the inclusion of the National Fibre Optic Backbone in the transactions.
