Colonel Cyril Necku (Rtd), Deputy Minister of the
Volta Region, on Monday, urged the youth to adequately prepare themselves towards meeting the demands of national development in the future.
He said they if they did not prepare now they would be overwhelmed by their responsibilities when the mantle of leadership were handed over to them.
Col. Necku issued the challenge at a sports and evangelism festival organized by the Youth for Christ (YFC) and Volta for Churches organisations in Ho, on Easter Monday.
He urged Christian youth to let their moral uprightness and values influence their peers to reduce criminality and immorality.
Col. Necku advised them to be selfless and to help their peers to develop themselves.
He asked them to apply the teachings of Jesus Christ to their daily lives and be hard working wherever they found themselves.
Col. Necku underscored the benefits of sports in the health and total wellbeing of the individual and urged young people to exercise regularly.
Mr Patrick Mahama, National Director of YFC Ghana, identified lack of mentorship as a major challenge facing the youth and said YFC-Ghana was
taking up the challenge to provide mentorship and leadership coaching to young people.
He expressed the hope that this would prepare the youth well to take up responsible positions in the future.
Mr Mahama commended the local churches for working with YFC and urged them to do more in helping YFC to raise leaders for the Church and nation.
