Ten assembly members of the Accra Metropolitan Assembly would on Monday arrive in South Carolina, USA, to study how to strengthen democracy and empower people at the local level.
The first batch of many to be trained, would participate in studies, research and observation sessions on how South Carolina State Laws are developed and passed.
Their trip, which is at the invitation of the South Carolina House of Representative, was made possible by a recent House Resolution that called for the Ghanaian and South Carolinian legislators Exchange Programme to roll.
A letter to the Mayor of Accra, Alfred Oko Vanderpuije, and made available to the Ghana News Agency, said the training would take place at the State House and would run from Tuesdays to Thursdays, which are the days the house sits.
The agenda for the remaining days include visits to Historical Black Colleges and Universities and neighbouring towns.
They would also tour the US capital, Washington DC, the City of Charleston and Atlanta, the birth city of Dr Martin Luther King Jr.
The assembly members would attend lectures at Benedict College on the History of Civil Rights Movements and the African Diaspora in the Americas.
The letter, signed by Joseph H. Neal, South Carolina House Representative, said, "We hope your stay in Columbia would be a productive and informative one… that this new partnership will further develop stronger ties between the government of Ghana and the United States of America."
