A woman charged with stealing and consumption of a stolen goat, provoked prolonged laughter when she appeared before the Asamankese Circuit Court.
Though Bintu Sofo admitted stealing the goat and two little ones, she pleaded not guilty, explaining that the animals destroyed her garden and strayed into her kitchen to pour her soup, which
compelled her to take action.
Detective Police Chief Inspector Robert Bediako told the court that the accused and the owner of the goats Abdulai Ibrahim, lived on the same compound.
He said for some time now, the complainant who rear goats experienced theft of his animals and every effort to catch the culprits proved futile.
On April 23, the complainant opened the animals to graze and later detected that one of the goats and two young ones failed to return home.
The prosecutor said the complainant conducted investigations and had information that the goats were with the accused.
He said on April 24, Ibrahim who was accompanied by a witness in the case, confronted the accused in her house over the missing goats.
Though she admitted that the goats were in her possession, she demanded GHc100 from the complainant before releasing them, explaining that they had destroyed her plantain farm.
Sofo who was persuaded to hand over the goats to Ibrahim was adamant to do so, compelling the complainant to report the case to the police who arrested her.
At the police station, she admitted having stolen the goats but had killed the nanny and cooked with part of the meat.
