Marking a giant step from its humble beginning with as few as 61 students in its first year, India's leading engineering institution BITS Pilani's Dubai campus (BPD) has completed a decade of presence in the emirates.
BPD started its engineering programmes in two disciplines computer science and electrical and electronics but gradually added on new specialisations and now offers nine programmes at
the undergraduate level and six masters programme.
In 2007 BPD built its own campus in Dubai International Academic City.
The campus now boasts of more than 1,700 students. In the process, the campus claims to have reversed the trend of high school students going from the UAE to India for engineering
studies.
The campus also have 27 per cent female students enrolled for engineering courses. The parent university is now said to be eager to pursue other markets such as Maldives, Singapore
and Africa.
