A public forum to deepen understanding and whip up enthusiasm in the Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) system, has been held at Bibiani in the Western Region.
Mr Justice Marful Sau, an Appeal Court Judge, said it would help to ease the pressure on the traditional courts significantly and allow judges
enough space to research and come out with well-reasoned judgments.
Additionally, it is not adversarial and also reduces the cost of litigation.
The ADR involves the use of mediation and in some cases negotiation to resolve disputes.
Justice Sau said disputes between landlords and tenants, family matters, child- maintenance, divorce, debt recovery, within corporate
bodies, defamation, libel and criminal misdemeanours could all be handled through ADR.
This would free the traditional courts to deal with cases bordering on fundamental rights, constitutional matters, felonies and other issues of public interest.
