A two-day peace conference of South Asian countries is scheduled in the northern Indian city in July to promote peace in the region in general and between
India and Pakistan in particular.
The meet is organised by a non-government organisation of the state.
Nearly 300 delegates, mostly members of parliament, journalists and thinkers from India, Pakistan and Bangladesh have confirmed participation in the conference to be held on
July 17-18 at S K International Convention Centre (SKICC) here, Chairman of the NGO, "J and K peace foundation", Fayaz Ahmad Bhat told reporters here on Saturday.
In addition, 200 delegates from other countries including Bhutan, Nepal and Sri Lanka have been invited, Bhat said.
He said the aim of the conference is to demonstrate to the world that people of Kashmir want peace and promote amity between India and Pakistan so that all the problems are
resolved through talks peacefully.
Meanwhile, state unit of Samajwadi Party has extended support to the proposed conference and appealed political, social and religious organizations to participate in the conference.
