Alex Duodu, a farmer, was on Friday sentenced to a fine of GHC 240 by the Kade District Magistrate's Court, for stealing four bags of palm fruits valued at GHC 48.
In default, Duodu who pleaded guilty, will go to jail for nine months.
Gladys Glomanye, who bought the palm fruits and was charged with dishonestly receiving, was discharged by the court.
Inspector Francis Cobbina told the court presided over by Mr. Abdul Majid Iliasu that the complainant, Baffour Ansong was a palm oil producer at Otumi and Duodu was a farmer there.
He said on May 4 at about 0530 hours, Duodu stole four bags of palm fruits belonging to the complainant from an oil mill at Otumi and hid them in the nearby bush.
Inspector Cobbina said that Duodu hired a driver to convey the palm fruits Asikam and sold it to Glomanye.
After the driver had sent the palm fruits to Glomanye, he head reports of stolen palm fruits and he became suspicious that it was the palm fruits that he had conveyed to Glomanye that were being referred to.
Inspector Cobbina said that the driver confronted the convict and he admitted the theft.
The complainant arrested Duodu and handed him over to the police and during investigation the convict said that he sold the palm fruits to
Glomanye.
Glomanye told the court that Duodu convinced her that the palm fruits were harvested from his mother's farm.
