Journalist and pro-Left commentator Praful Bidwai has criticised the UPA Government' climate policy arguing it was tailored to suit the interests of the Western block.
The government's climate policy was formulated under pressure exerted by the western countries and not in response to the threat faced from climate change by vulnerable sections
in India, Bidwai said here on Saturday.
Addressing a seminar on "Climate responsible
development" by fish workers' union the Kerala Swathantra Matsya Thozhilali Federation, he said the climate summit at Copenhagen was a "betrayal" and backtracking on the earlier understanding among nations on regulation of emissions.
"The summit came up with an annual commitment of USD 10 billion to combat climate change all over the world, against an estimated need of USD 1,000 billion," Bidwai said.
