Road Safety education in the Tema Metropolis has come to a halt over the past two years due to the mal-functioning of the Metropolitan office.
The office of the National Road Safety Commission (NRSC), located in the 'White House' building at Tema Community Two, has been locked for the past
two years.
The Metropolitan office co-ordinates road safety activities in the Tema Metropolis, Ashaiman Municipality, the Dangme East and the Dangme West
districts.
Mr Benjamin Dadzie, Organizer of the Tema Road Safety Committee, told the Ghana News Agency in an interview on Wednesday that the office became
dormant after a letter from the Greater Accra Regional Office directed that activities of the NRSC in the Metropolis would be directly co-ordinated by the Regional Manager of the Commission.
Mr Dadzie said members of the Committee, became reluctant to attend meetings after the directive was issued, leading to the collapse of road
safety activities in the Metropolis.
He said the situation had led to the collapse of the road safety clubs in schools in Tema and Ashaiman
Mr Dadzie appealed to the Commission to allow the Metropolitan Office to co-ordinate its own activities, as it used to do, since the current
arrangement was not benefiting road users in the Metropolis.
