Parents have been urged not to shirk their responsibilities to educate their children at the basic school level in spite of government's intervention.
Mr Emmanuel Frank Tordzro, Adaklu Anyigbe District Coordinator of the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), who gave the advice on Thursday, said government's free school uniform and exercise books, capitation grant and the school feeding programme were meant to supplement their efforts.
Mr Tordzro gave the advice when he and officials of the Happy Child of the USA, distributed gifts to pupils of Adaklu Kodzobi on behalf of the Samaritan Purse, a Christian NGO of the USA.
He hoped the parcels would inspire the pupils to study hard to become responsible citizens, who would also assist the needy children in other parts of the world.
Mr Tordzro commended Mrs Juliana Azumah-Mensah, MP for the area and Minister of Women and Children Affairs, who was instrumental in getting the Samaritan Purse, to donate the items to the pupils.
Reverend Charles Ayimey, Operational Director of Operation Happy Child, local representatives of Samaritan Purse, said under its 10-year needy and strategic plan, every child in Ghana would have a parcel from Samaritan Purse.
He said schools in 21 other communities in the district also benefitted from the package.
