The Minister of the Interior, Mr Martin A.B.K. Amidu, has on the advice of the Upper East Regional Security Council, and by Executive Instrument, renewed for a week the curfew imposed on the Bawku
Municipality and its environs.
A statement the Minister signed in Accra said the curfew took effect from Wednesday, June 2.
It said the curfew hours had been revised from 6:00pm to 6:00am each day.
The statement said; "Government expresses its appreciation to the chiefs, elders, opinion leaders, youth and the people of the area for their
sustained efforts at ensuring relative peace and calm in the municipality and its immediate environs".
It said; "Government continues to urge them to support the security agencies in their efforts to bring peace and maintain law and order in the area".
The statement reiterated that there is a ban on all persons in the Bawku Municipality, and its immediate environs (Zabzugu, Binduri, Pusiga and
Zoasi) from carrying arms, ammunition or any offensive weapons and any person found violating the directive would be arrested and prosecuted.
