A large migratory sea bird, which was found injured here, has been rescued and sent to the
Thiruvananthapuram Zoo where it is being treated.
The bird 'Masked Booby', a native to the Galapagos island, was found alone with a damaged right eye at Ashram ground in Kollam last Sunday.
According to members of 'Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals' (SPCA) who rescued the bird and provided medical treatment, the Booby seems to have suffered a mishap
during the flight and separated from its flock.
Scientifically known as 'Suka Nebouxii', the blue-footed booby is three feet long with a wing span of five feet. It is fearless in nature and a pair of blue webbed feet make it special among sea birds.
SPCA decided to hand over the bird to zoo authorities rather than release it, as the bird seemed too weak and was found to be in a sinking state, a member said.
However, the bird was responding to treatment and was taking food now, zoo authorities said.
