A healthcare diagnostics company based in this south Indian city today said it has installed a sophisticated joint MRI scanning machine, the first in South Asia.
The equipment, which could produce high resolution images for diagnosing various problems, was launched at the city-based 'Focus Diagnostics' here on Sunday.
"We had been looking around to obtain such technology for the last three years and finally acquired the GE Healthcare's MRI scanning equipment, given the accuracy, comfort and affordability that it offers to patients," said
Balaji Reddy, Managing Director (radiology) Director, Focus Diagnostics.
The 1.5-tesla-MRI scanning-equipment is designed for small joins, primarily knee, elbow, wrist, finger, ankle and toes. Purchased at an investment of Rs 3 crore, with the fundings of a private finance company, it could create a great
impact in the field of diagnostics, he said.
Unlike other equipment, the GE 1.5-tesla MRI has the uniqueness of characterising some subtle abnormalities in joint problems. While patients need to get into a big tunnel for 45 minutes in the regular MRI scanning procedures, which are painful, the GE 1.5-tesla joint MRI comes with a chair and a small tunnel where the patients need to keep only the area or the part that requires to be scanned, Reddy said.
