Russia shipped humanitarian aid to Ukraine Friday to help the former Communist country address severe flooding in its western regions, Russian
officials said.
The Russian Emergencies Ministry said it sent two planeloads of aid and will be sending a helicopter
to help officials conduct an aerial survey of the area, RIA Novosti reported.
Heavy rains and rising rivers last week led to severe flooding in several western regions of Ukraine.
In the Chernovtsy region, 65 towns were flooded, affecting about 15,000 people, officials said.
Roads and bridges were damaged, officials said, and several communities throughout the western
region were without power.
