Opanyin Kwasi Wontumi, Chief Farmer at Asukese in the Eastern Region, has urged colleague farmers to always use protective wears before applying agro-chemical, especially fertilizers on their crops.
Even though fertilizer is very useful and has helped in increasing crop production, we the farmers must be sufficiently educated on its
application and the health effects on the user
He called therefore on the Ministry of Food and Agriculture and its agencies to educate farmers to protect their human bodies before the
application of agro-chemicals.
Opanyin Wontumi said this at a forum with farmers, food vendors and agro-chemical sellers at Asukese on how to apply fertilizer and other
agro-chemicals on farm crops.
The Chief Farmer said some farmers have been infested with diseases, which sometimes led to their deaths due to lack of insufficient education on agro-chemical usage and its effects on the human body.
