Mr John Tia Akologu, Minister of Information, on
Monday inaugurated a 10-member Ministerial Advisory Board for the Ministry to ensure its smooth operation and promote good governance.
The Board would be chaired by the Minister, backed by his two Deputies, Mr Samuel Okudzeto-Ablakwa and Mr James Agyenim-Boateng, Mr Vincent X. K. Senaya, Acting Chief Director at the Ministry, Professor Linus Abraham, Acting Rector, National Film and Television Institute (NAFTI).
Other members are Mr David Dzreke, Managing Director, Ghana Publishing Corporation, Mr Kwesi Pratt, Private Newspapers Publishing Association of Ghana (PRINPAG), Mr Kwesi Agyeman, Ghana Independent Broadcasters Association (GIBA), Mr Eric Noi, Institute of Public Relations and Mr
William Ampem-Darko, Director-General, Ghana Broadcasting Corporation.
Mr Akologu explained that establishment of the Board was to ensure good governance, but attributed its late inauguration to unexpected difficulties within the sector and the change of leadership.
He expressed appreciation to the members for accepting the challenge to serve their nation and urged them to put in their resourcefulness, to
facilitate and assist the Ministry achieve its objectives.
The Information Minister explained that the Board had several vital roles to play including an added responsibility to advise the Minister on
adjustments in policy direction, planning, objectives and operational strategies.
Mr Akologu said that it was the Ministry�s vision to ensure a free, united, informed and prosperous society with good governance through
development communication as well as free flow of timely and reliable information and feedback between the government and the public to develop a
national communication policy.
However, he indicated that the challenges facing the information sector was enormous and called for media support and cooperation to ensure that the freedom they had enjoyed were used responsibly for the benefit of development of democracy in the country.
