The images of Marilyn Monroe with her blowing skirt, James Dean walking through the rain drenched streets of Times Square puffing a cigarette and Clark Gable in a pensive mood during the shooting of 'Misfits', are all part of Hollywood lore.
And now these images from the archives of Magnum, which captured some of the biggest icons in tinseltown in 'behind the scenes' moments, are on display in the capital in an exhibition to celebrates 100 years of Hollywood.
They are part of a 10-day-long exhibition 'At the Movies-Magnum ke Tasveer'.
The photographs from 1940 to 2000 give glimpses of Hollywood's golden age and its biggest icons, be it Swedish actress Ingrid Bergman in a contemplative mood on the set of
'The Arch of Triumph' in 1946 or Hollywood pin-up Brigitte Bardot posing defiantly for the cameras during the filming of French film 'La bride sur le cou' in 1960.
The collection is from the archives of Magnum Photos, a photographic cooperative founded by noted French photographer Henri Cartier Bresson, Swedish photographer Robert Capa, George Rodger and David Seymour.
Indian cinema legend Satyajit Ray is also part of this exhibition, who was photographed by Marc Riboud during the shooting of his 1956 film 'Aparajito'.
Other photographs include American actor Gary Cooper by Capa, Paul Newman's 2000 photograph by Bruce Davidson, Elizabeth Taylor during the shooting of 1959 film 'Suddenly
Last Summer' by Burt Glinn, David Hurn's photographs of Italian filmmaker Roberto Rossellini and Sophia Lauren, Dennis Stock's iconic image of James Dean walking the street at Times Square and Elliott Erwitt's Marilyn Monroe.
Magnum's archive represent the history of cinema with it's photographers working on fim sets and capturing behind-the-scenes moments by photographing film directors, actors and actresses on and off the camera for over 60 years.
The exhibition inaugurated by yesteryear's film star Sharmila Tagore were brought to India by Tasveer art gallery and jewellery brand Ganjam.
"It is great to have these Hollywood icons in India. They are not only about Hollywood but we have also included images from French, Iran and Indian cinema. We are planning to take it to different cities including Kolkata, Mumbai and Ahmedabad," Abhishek Poddar of Tasveer said.
