Residents of Kwakuanya Electoral Area in the Dormaa Municipality have been urged to fully participate in the 2010 National Population and Housing Census and the National Identification Exercise.
Mr. Vincent Oppong Asamoah, Municipal Chief Executive, who made the call, explained the census would enable the Assembly to procure reliable data for the equitable distribution of development projects.
At a meeting with chiefs, unit committees and the people at Kwakuanya, the MCE advised residents, who are predominantly settler farmers, to desist from rushing to their hometowns to participate in the two national exercises.
He noted that the settlers return to their farmlands only exert pressure on social amenities provided for those who had their names on the
area's register.
"When too many people share few amenities, there is bound to be waste of precious time by users and rapid wear and tear of the facilities, hence the need for the actual population of the area to be known for adequate planning", Mr. Asamoah added.
The MCE advised the residents to assist the enumerators with all demographic information so that the true state of the area's population could be known.
For the national Identification exercise, the Chief Executive dispelled the notion by some people that the identification exercise was to facilitate the easy the taxation of Ghanaians.
Mr. Asamoah challenged the people in the electoral area to let their true numbers reflect in the two exercises as an impetus to their clarion
call on the Electoral Commission to split their rather vast electoral area into three.
