The Parent-Teacher Associations (PTAs) of Obuasi Senior High Technical (OSHTS) and Christ The King Catholic Senior High Schools (CKCSHS) have been commended for initiating dormitory block projects for their schools.
The Obuasi Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Mr John Alexander Kobina Ackon who made the commendation at the general meeting of the Municipal Assembly (OMA), said whilst the PTA of OSHTS is funding a 300-bed dormitory block, that of the CKCSHS is financing a two-storey boys dormitory block.
He added that under the government's senior high schools infrastructural expansion programme, both schools were benefiting from a number of classroom and dormitory projects whose work was ongoing.
Mr Ackon was also full of praise for the commitment to duty of the Municipal Director of Education, Mr Johnny Owusu-Boadi, which had contributed to the achievements in the education sector of the Municipality.
"The benefits accrued in sports cannot be underestimated. In recent festivals, Obuasi won the regional U-12 soccer trophy and also won the U-15 boys and girls athletics trophies including the trophy for the overall best district in competitions held at Obuasi and Offinso," he said.
The MCE added that students of CKCSHS represented the municipality at the inter-zonal cultural festival and emerged the champions in choral music and sight-singing and also placed second in drum language and drama in English.
"At the zonal cultural festival at Mampong, Obuasi came first in sight-singing, second in poetry recital and third in choral music," he said, adding "this impressive performance made the Region to select our students to form a Regional troupe to Cape Coast and placed second."
On the results of the 2010 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE), Mr Ackon said though the analysis of the results was being compiled, he was hopeful that "the results at a glance show impressive performance which might put Obuasi again at the first position in the national ranking."
