Three foreigners suspected to be involved in cross-border armed robbery, especially snatching of motorbikes, have been nabbed by the police at Aflao.
The police have retrieved three such bikes from the rooms of the suspects at Ziorme a suburb of Aflao, with their number plates removed, some parts swapped and appearances changed.
The police gave the names of the suspects as Richard Klihorme, 28, Togolese and Abdul Rahman Ede, Nigerienne and his 19- year-old brother, Yakubu Ede.
Their Ghanaian accomplice, whose name is being withheld, is said to be on the run.
Mr Ahmed Issah Yakubu, Aflao Police District Commander, told the Ghana News Agency that a joint effort of the Togolese and Ghanaian police led to the arrest of the suspects who were resident in Lome.
He said the suspects, who operated mainly in Togo, shot riders or clubbed them to death, took the bikes and smuggled them to Aflao or other border towns for sale to motorbike taxi operators.
Mr Yakubu said a Togolese gendarmerie was thought to have fallen victim to the robbers recently.
He said Togolese security had listed 50 bikes as stolen in 50 days.
Mr Yakubu said many motorbike riders whose bikes were impounded in a recent swoop had surprisingly withdrawn from pursing claims to such bikes.
