Two Hundred and Sixty (260) youth recruited by the National Youth Employment Programme (NYEP) in the Bolgatanga Municipality as Community Education Teaching Assistants (CETA), have undergone a three- day training course.
The programme organised by the NYEP in collaboration with Ghana Education Service (GES) and the assembly in Bolgatanga, was aimed at equipping the recruits with basic skills in teaching.
They were taken through preparation of good lesson notes and how to teach, roles and responsibilities of teachers, the structures and functions of the Ministry of Education and GES, Code of Ethics of the GES, Millennium Development Goals on Education and Functions of NYEP.
Speaking at the closing ceremony, the Municipal Youth Co-ordinator of the NYEP, Mr Abdallah Salifu said in less than two years, his outfit had recruited more than 100 people under the programme, while plans are far advanced to employ an additional number into new models.
Mrs Agnes Atagabi, Regional Director of Education said during the 2010/2011 academic year, the teaching assistants would be posted to schools in the municipality and urged them to work hard to improve upon the educational standard in their communities.
The Regional Co-ordinator of the NYEP, Mr Kojo Kupanam warned that any CETA who fails to obey the rules and regulations of the teaching profession would be strip of his or her post.
The Member of Parliament for the area, Mr Opam Browm Akolbire entreated the personnel to aspire to higher levels.
