Four Ghanaian Universities have been presented grants and IT equipment valued at $65,000 for taking part in season four of the Zain Africa Challenge, Africa’s most exciting inter university academic quiz. Zain, in its commitment to make a positive impact in Ghana through education presented these items to University of Ghana (UG), University for Development Studies (UDS), Valley View University VVU) and the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST).
In addition to the institutional grants, which were used to purchase IT equipment, the contestants from each team received their individual grants in varied sums according to the stage they reached in the competition.
UG and UDS reached the quarter finals and opted to buy an assortment of educational equipment including multi-purposed photocopiers, scanner, laptop computers, wireless routers, LCD projectors & screens, among others, valued at $ 15,000; the team members from these institutions were each awarded cash prices ranging from $1,500 to $2,200.VVU and KNUST, who exited the competition at round one also opted for similar items at the cost of $5000 with each team member contestants receiving $500.
Held in Kampala, Uganda this year, ZAC which premiered in 2005 serves as a platform where students from African Universities battle it out in front of an audience of over one million. This year’s competition featured 32 universities drawn from English speaking, Zain-operated countries including Uganda Sierra Leone, Zambia Kenya, Tanzania, Nigeria and Malawi.
