A two-day capacity building training on roles and responsibilities of School Management Committees (SMC) and Parent/Teacher Association (PTA), has been held at Asikuma-Odoben-Brakwa.
The program was created to support the implementation of Grant and Reporting Accountability Improved Literacy (GRAIL) Programme.
The Ghana Education Service, United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and the government organized the workshop which is aimed at ensuring quality education in teaching and improving literacy.
A total of 274 participants comprising chairmen and selected SMC and PTA members from all the basic schools from Breman Asikuma, Odoben and Brakwa participated in the program.
Resource personnel from GRAIL and the District Education Directorate took participants through topics including the role of the SMC/PTA,
composition and their tenure of office, How to conduct meetings and school performance plan (SPIP), monitoring of school finances and assets and the development of productive links to external Agencies for support.
Mr Ernest Fletcher, GRAIL Monitoring and evaluation officer and Madam Rebecca Afua Morrison, GRAIL Zonal Coordinator for Central and Western regions, commended the participants for exhibiting sense of maturity during the programme.
They urged the participants to implement the knowledge and skills acquired at the workshop to ensure the success of the programme in the
district.
