Madam Agnes Tawiah, a 55 year old trader, has been remanded in police custody by an Aflao Circuit Court for allegedly possessing substances suspected to be Indian Hemp.
Her plea was not taken and is to be brought before the Court again at a later date.
Mr Akwasi Asafo-Agyei, Dzodze District Police Commander, told the court presided over by Mr Francis Obiri that Tawiah was a trader resident at Donkorkrom in the Eastern Region.
He said on November 9, at 0700 hours, Police from Dzodze intercepted a commercial mini bus with registration number GT 912 P while on patrol duty around Penyi near Dzodze.
Mr Asafo-Agyei said a search revealed two travelling bags, two large margarine plastic containers and two polythene bags containing dry leaves, which they suspected to be Indian hemp.
He said Tawiah was identified as the one who boarded the vehicle with the baggage and was arrested.
Mr Asafo-Agyei said Madam Tawiah admitted the offence and in a caution statement said the leaves were to be used for herbal concoctions.
He said the exhibits had been sent to the Police Laboratory for examination.
