The departments of Children and Social Welfare has organized a one-day workshop at Wa to orient members of Early Childhood Care and Development (ECCD) district teams in the Upper West Region.
The workshop is to enhance their knowledge and responsiveness to some emerging issues in child development.
The workshop will also revamp the district teams in supporting the implementation of ECCD, stimulate collaboration among district partners to promote the programme at district level and form partnerships with stakeholders for the sustainability of ECCD programmes in the districts.
The ECCD programme is a timely provision of a range of services that promote the survival, growth, development and protection of the young child.
Mr. Israel Akrobortu, the Assistant Programme officer of the Department of Children, said the country's early childhood development
policy focused primarily on protection of child rights, development of guide lines and provision of institutional frame work to guide stakeholders.
It also encourages the setting up of coordination and monitoring mechanisms for promoting childhood development in Ghana.
He said the ECCD policy should be seen as both a challenge and an opportunity to continue to develop the country's human resource base for the present and future generations.
Mr. Gregory Naah, a Social Welfare official in the region urged the public to endeavour to report any infringements on the rights of children to the appropriate agencies for redress.
