The Half Assini Catholic Basic School authorities in the Western Region, on Thursday asked Government to terminate the contract with contractors working to renovate the school block that has been abandoned for three months now.
The authorities said Government could either call the contractors back as a matter of urgency or terminate their contracts outright to allow other contractors to takeover and complete the project on time.
The Headmistress of the school, Ms Mercy Nyanzu, made the appeal in an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) at Half Assini, on the state of the school project.
She said because the contractors working on the project, Pagos Limited and Armada Enterprise had abandoned the project, the school had been left in the dark and no one knows when they would resume work.
The Headmistress expressed fears that, if the project was not completed on time before the rains begin, it could complicate lessons since there would not be any classrooms for any active academic work.
She said the windows, doors, roofing sheets and electrical cables of the primary and Junior High School blocks had not been fixed and that could expose the property of the school to the vagaries of the weather and thieves.
When the District Chief Executive for Jomoro, Mr Victor Nyanyi Kablan was contacted on the issue, he said, the contract was awarded by the Architectural Engineering Services Limited at the regional office at Sekondi and therefore could not explain why the contractors had abandoned the project.
Information gathered by the GNA indicated that the contractors had been engaged by other companies elsewhere at the expense of the school project.
