Arrangement for the construction of a modern library Complex at Winneba, by Twinning City of Charlottesville, Virginia, in the US, under a sister Cities relationship, is completed.
Mr Kofi Kussachin, Effutu Municipal Co-coordinating Director, said this on Saturday, at a meeting with Dr Dolly R. D. Joseph from Charlottesville, who was in the municipality for further studies of a memorandum of understanding that had been signed between the Effutu Municipal Assembly and Charlottesville, last year.
The Member of Parliament for the area, Mr Mike Hammah, led the Effutu delegation to the USA.
The memorandum, among others, is to promote social relationship, sharing of traditions, history, arts and culture, through communications, including Internet access and visitation.
The Coordinating Director said documents and land for the project are ready, adding that, the Assembly, the Municipal Directorate of the Ghana Education Service and members of the local Commission, are ready to receive the delegation from Charlottesville in April this year, for the commencement of the Library project.
According to Mr Kussachin plans are far advanced for the Assembly, in collaboration with the GES, to organize workshops ahead of the project, to encourage the youth to cultivate the habit of reading, for them to patronize the library to improve their knowledge.
Dr Joseph expressed her gratitude to the Municipal Assembly, GES and the local Commission for the warm reception given her during the visit.
According to herm all that she had seen and heard will be communicated to the Mayor of Charlottesville, towards the promotion of the sister cities relation.
In a related development, Dr Joseph had also presented a trophy to be contested for by the different groups of the Winneba Masquerades, during the Annual festival celebration of the masquerades on January 1.
Among those present were the Municipal Chief Executive, Nii Ephraim and Mrs Ernestina Yawson, Executive Secretary to the Local Sister City Commission.
