Indian President Pratibha Patil on Tuesday asked people to buy at least one Khadi product
every year to promote the Khadi industry.
Remembering Kasturba Gandhi on the occasion of her death anniversary at a function organised at 'Gandhi Smriti' here, the President said promotion of Khadi was important for the country.
Describing the significance of 'charkha', she said it was a symbol of self reliance given to the people of the country and also to earn self respect.
"Charkha also became a mode of self employment and means of living," she said.
Patil termed 'charkha' as 'sudarshan chakra' as it was meant to remove not only poverty but also to do away the poverty thought in the people.
"Poverty is still a factor in the country. Lots of people live below poverty line. In this context promotion of khadi is very important," she said.
