Alhaji Haruna Abdul-Salam, Nkoranza South District Coordinating Director, has appealed to the government and the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIS) to provide a monument at Nkoranza to acknowledge the people of Nkoranza
as pacesetters of the scheme.
He suggested the construction of a office for the management of the scheme at Nkoranza so that the people would feel proud of their
efforts.
Alhaji Abdul-Salam was addressing a stakeholders’ forum at Nkoranza.
The DCD, who is chairman of the caretaker committee of the scheme, commended its leadership and founders “for leaving a land mark for the well-being of all the people of Ghana.”
Dr. Inneke Bossman, a Dutch medical doctor at Nkoranza, is always remembered by the people of Nkoranza for spearheading the institution
of the health insurance scheme in the district.
Mr. James Adu-Bona, claims manager of the scheme, announced that since its inception 143,381 people had registered with it.
He said the management of the scheme had envisaged to register about 80,000 people this year and would carry out an intensive public
education in the communities to sensitize the people on the need to join it.
He appealed to Assembly Members, Unit Committees, traditional authorities and religious leaders to join in the campaign to register
more people.
Mr. Adu-Bona complained that lack of a permanent office was a major challenge facing the scheme.
Madam Slamatu Ibrahim, Nkoranza South District Director of Health Services, said malaria continued to be the top-most disease in the communities with children below the age of five mostly succumbing to it.
She advised nursing mothers to send their children affected by malaria to health facilities without delay to reduce the high infant mortality in the communities.
Mr. Francis Tawiah, administrator of Saint Theresa’s Hospital at Nkoranza, said the management was constructing a storey building block to serve as an out-patient department (OPD) and administration block.
Mr. Foster Adjei-Korang, the Brong-Ahafo Regional Manager of the Scheme, appealed to Members of Parliament to support the growth of the
schemes in their constituencies.
