Bishop of the Sekondi Diocese of the Ghana Methodist Church, Right Reverend Edward Ofori Donkor, has charged the youth in the church to uphold and preserve its tradition in high esteem.
He said the church had rich tradition that should be preserved by the youth for posterity.
Rt. Rev. Ofori-Donkor gave the advice at Effiakuma during an inter-circuit competition on pre-autonomy and post-autonomy exhibition of archival materials, drama and choreography on the theme: “The Methodist Church Ghana: 50 years of Autonomy, Achievements and Challenges, at the weekend.
The competition, dubbed Methofest 2011, forms part of activities marking the 50 years anniversary celebration of autonomy by the Ghana
Methodist Church from the British Methodist Conference in 1961.
Rt. Rev. Ofori-Donkor asked Christians to emulate the lifestyle of Jesus Christ.
The Sekondi Diocese Secretary to the Committee on the Autonomy Anniversary, Mrs Mina Tweneboah-Koduah, said the exhibition of the
archival materials of the church aimed at inculcating in the youth the habit of preservation of church records for posterity.
She noted that it was also to educate the members about the history and traditions of the church since 1835 up to date.
The Takoradi Circuit took the first position with 249.5 points followed by Effiakuma Circuit with 220 points and Sekondi Circuit placed third with 157 points.
In all, six circuits out of 14 circuits in the Sekondi Diocese took part in the exhibition competition.
