A suicide bomber on Saturday detonated himself at a military checkpoint in Iraq's northern city of Mosul, leaving at least eight people killed and 20 others wounded, local police source told Xinhua.
The attack occurred at a checkpoint near a popular market in central Mosul, and three soldiers were among the dead, said the source who asked not to be named.
Mosul, some 400 km north of Baghdad, has been the hotbed of insurgency and sectarian violence since the U.S.-led invasion in 2003.
Violence and sporadic high-profile bomb attacks continue in Iraqi cities despite the dramatic decrease of violence over last three years.
