MTN Ghana on Wednesday organised a clean-up exercise at the Tawala Beach Resort, La in Accra as part of the company’s 21 days of Yellow Care Programme.
The annual event, which was being carried out in all the 21 countries it operates in Africa brought together scores of the organisation’s staff in the capital who went beyond their usual official duties as they collected plastic bags and other waste materials that were dumped along the beach.
Mr Franklin Sowa, Media Manager, MTN Ghana said the Day was chosen to coincide with the World Ocean Day to demonstrate the company’s commitment to its environmental responsibilities including the maintenance of good sanitation along the country’s coast.
He stated that the MTN in the fulfilment of its corporate social responsibility saw the need to organise such an event to clear the beaches of filth and to sensitise the public on the need to keep the country’s coast clean for tourist attraction.
Mr Sowa noted that MTN would continue with other activities such as promoting ecotourism, interaction with schools, communities and hospitals that were lined up for the entire duration of the 21 days of the yellow care programme.
Nii Kpobi Tettey III, La Mantse expressed appreciation to the staff of MTN for taking a special interest in the community and called on the public to cultivate the habit of keeping the beaches and environment clean.
