More than 500 poor and vulnerable people suffering from various health conditions at Kwadaso and Bomso in Kumasi have benefited from free medical treatment.
They were screened for hepatitis ‘B’, malaria, HIV/AIDS, heart, eye and diseases.
Additionally, they had their blood pressure and cholesterol checked and given free medication and those, whose cases required further checks referred. This was carried out by a team of medical professionals from the Maranatha hospital with support from ASA Savings and Loans Limited, a financial institution.
Mrs. Agatha Amoateng-Boahen, Chief Executive Officer of the Hospital, said the goal was to give help to the sick, who were finding it difficult to access medical care because of financial constraints.
She said they would continue in their own small way to give support to the poor and the needy. Mr. Mohammed Sajibur Rahman, Operations Manager of ASA Savings and Loans, said the company was proud to be associated with the effort at bringing quality healthcare to the people, adding that, “the cause is noble”.
The company, being a good corporate citizen, was not only interested in returns on investment but the welfare of the people as well. He said they were convinced that when the people were healthy they would be productive and that was why they were putting premium on the health of the population.
They had helped to organize similar health screening programmes in Greater Accra, Eastern and the Western Regions, he added.
