As part of its commitment to the health, safety and the well-being of its staff, the company also marked the Breast Cancer Awareness month by organizing an awareness program for both male and female employees in the Accra office and the Eastern Corridor Road Project, a release form Odebrecht-Ghana said. 

Mr Danilo Trinchão, responsible for People and Finance at Odebrecht- Ghana, said “the health of our employees is paramount and central to our existence as a business. In view of this corporate philosophy, Odebrecht- Ghana, would continue to help its staff prevent chronic diseases or detect them early enough so they can seek medical treatment.”  

He said adequate awareness and education on prostate cancer was one potent way the disease could be prevented.

 “This realization is responsible for our decision as an organization to combine education and screening every year for our employees,” it said.

Dr Joseph Awuku-Asabre, a Urologist, said prostate cancer was the most common male cancer affecting one in 7,000 men in the country and that men of 40 years and above, were susceptive to prostate cancer and  had to screen yearly to ensure early detection.

It said Odebrecht Ghana won the CSR Engineering Company of the Year at the Ghana Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Excellence Awards 2016 in Accra, partly because it had a robust employee-focused health, safety and well-being policies and interventions.

 Odebrecht has presence in 21 countries, including Ghana, the release said, adding that the company had diversified business activities and a decentralized structure.

It said Odebrecht does business in the fields of engineering and construction, industry and in the development and operation of infrastructure and energy projects.
