Mr. Hamidu Osman, the Deputy District Planning Officer, said this would be done under the Sanitation Challenge for Ghana Project (SC4Gh).The SC4Gh, an initiative of the Local Government and Rural Development Ministry, provides financial reward to Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies, which adopt innovative approach to stop open defecation and promote increased access to basic sanitation services.

It is funded jointly by the Government of Ghana and the Department for International Development (DFID) of the United Kingdom. Mr. Osman was speaking at a progress monitoring meeting held with the implementing agency – IRC Ghana, at Kwabeng, the district capital. He said the assembly had started registering households for the construction of the toilets.        

It was also intensifying its inspection of buildings to make sure that every new property had washrooms, he added.Mr. Abubakari Wumbei, the Communications, Learning and Advocacy Coordinator of IRC Ghana, said there should be new ways of doing things to rid the communities of filth.
