The Koforidua Lodge, has donated a number of office items including five-table-top computers and accessories, printers, scanners and an internet connectivity device for the entire school valued at GHC 11, 000 to the school for the Deaf.
The donation is part of an annual charity programme, where the Lodge members identify a needy community or institution in their catchment area and go to their aid. Already the Koforidua Regional hospital and some orphanages in the region had benefited from the Charity. According to Lawyer John Roger Edusei, Master of Koforidua Lodge, they were touched by the plight of the school when they visited and realised they had no computers either to teach the children with disability or to use in the office administration.
He said in the era of technology, they felt that, such special institutions needed internet facilities to be able to research and teach the children well according to their standards to help make them relevant in society, hence their support in that direction.
The master of the Koforidua Lodge indicated that Freemasonry is a society that thrived on three core pillars of service to humanity, humility to society and fairness to all and concern for people and care for the less privileged in society.
He debunked the perception that Freemasonry was a secret society adding that “we rather instill in our members an ethical and discipline approach to life, to make the world a happy place for all”. Professor C. C Adomako, a lecturer at the Korle-Bu medical school and member of the Koforidua Lodge, said over the years they had given support to many institutions including the Methodist Senior High school at Oyoko, Akwadum orphanage and the Koforidua regional hospital with the provision of huge water tank each to improve access to water.
The headmaster of the school, Mr Jordan Agbona, who received the items, said the donation was timely because they sometimes used their phones to access internet connectivity for some school programmes because they had neither internet connection nor computers. He said because the children could not hear and speak, the computer for that matter internet was an important equipment for teaching them.
They can manipulate the computer to facilitate their learning.
