The Corporate Affairs Manager of the Ghana Integrity Initiative (GII), Mr. Michael Boadi, has called for strong involvement of everybody in the fight to purge the nation of corruption. He said not much had been achieved over the years in the fight to bring corruption down largely because of the non-involvement of the citizens.
It was important that the people were assisted to appreciate the harm dishonest and fraudulent conduct of those in power, was causing the nation and to discourage them paying bribe to obtain a service. Mr. Boadi was speaking at a community outreach programme held by the GII together with the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) and the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ) at Jato in the Suhum Municipality.
The goal was to bring anti-corruption education to the people and mobilize them to join the campaign. It provided the platform to discuss the role they should play to fight corrupt practices. Mr. Boadi indicated that if citizens avoided corruption and reported corruption a lot of progress would be made.
The Suhum Municipal Chief Executive, Madam Margaret Darko, asked the people to be bold to expose corrupt public officials. That, she said, was the path to travel to promote efficient and proper management of the nation’s resources – public funds to bring development. She noted that the fight would not be won overnight but said through collective resolve and commitment “we would get there”.
An official of CHRAJ at Suhum, Naa Anyeley Cole, said corruption should be made a high risk and low gain activity.
