A total number of 47,467 candidates from 1,562 public and private schools in the Western Region are expected to partake in this year’s Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) in 168 centres -which begins on Monday June 5.
The week-long examination starts with the English Language paper on Monday and ends with Social Studies on Friday.
The examination would be superintended by 168 invigilators and 168 supervisors.
Mr Ben Kwasi Owusu, the Western Regional branch Controller of the West African Examination Council (WAEC), said this in an interview with the Ghana News Agency at Sekondi.
He said his outfit had sensitized candidates on what they are required to do and assured them that the questions were not different from what their teachers had taught them in school.
Mr Owusu appealed to the candidates to avoid all forms of examination malpractices, relax and write confidently.
Madam Enyonam Afi Amafuga, the Western Regional Education Director, said her outfit has also sensitized supervisors, invigilators, teachers, parents and the candidates on the need to adhere strictly to the rules and regulations governing the conduct of the examinations and avoid malpractices.
She appealed to candidates who may become indisposed before or during the examination to report their conditions to invigilators and supervisors for action.
Madam Amafuga said the Girls Education Unit under the Ghana Education Service(GES) has embarked on an advocacy programme which seeks to ensure that pregnant candidates write the examinations, give birth and return to school.
