The second in a series of capacity-building workshops specifically designed for executives of the Greater Accra Markets Association took place last Thursday, 30th November, 2017. This particular workshop which was at the Institute of Local Government Studies, Ogbojo-Madina centred on basic bookkeeping and accounting and brought together selected market women executives from Madina, Adenta, Dodowa, and other surrounding markets.
The main resource person for the day, Mr. Seth Ofori Twumasi, the Head of Administration and Finance of Star Microinsurance took the participants through the creation of simple books such as Sales and Purchase Books. Mr. Twumasi took his time to take the women through the basic entries that were necessary to keep adequate records. The workshop was very participatory as the market queens asked insightful questions and shared real-life experiences on the subject.
The series of workshops has been put together as part of activities leading to the National Market Women’s Day Celebrations scheduled for 2nd July 2018. In opening the event, Mr. Kwaku Akuamoah Dankyi-Mensah, a Director of the Celebrations stated that his outfit was out to ensure the betterment of lives of market women in the country. He reiterated the commitment of the Celebrations to continue organising these workshops all through the coming year.
Star Microinsurance, a leading player in the microinsurance sub-industry is the sole sponsor for the workshops. Mr. Kwame Asare Boakye, Executive Director said his outfit was very commitment to the cause of the market women in the country and therefore did not hesitate to come on board.
Also present at the event was Hon. Mercy Afrowa Needjan, the President of the Greater Accra Markets Association.
